Das Leben der Anderen
2006 – German w/ English subtitles - 137 min
The film portrays the horrifying, and sometimes unintentionally funny observation system by the secret police in former East Germany. In the early 1980s, secret service agent Wiesler is instructed to spy on the lives of a successful dramatist and his beautiful companion and popular actress. While the VIPs are officially celebrated as stars in the socialist state, they secretly denounce the party, and agent Wiesler becomes increasingly entangled in their lives.
